Conservation/Efficiency Measures and Energy Management

The most simple and cost effective way to reduce your energy bills and your carbon footprint is to conserve energy. Here is a list of some simple ways to decrease your energy usage:

• Install LED light bulbs; LED’s use about 1/8 the energy of incandescent.
• Insulate ceilings, walls, hot water tanks and pipes
• Install a programmable thermostat; turn down the heat and turn up the A/C temperatures when they are not noticeable such as when no one is home or everyone is sleeping, or during non office hours for businesses
• Install energy-efficient appliances, including: on-demand hot water heaters, clothes washers, clothes dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, room air conditioners and dehumidifiers
• Install energy efficient, double paned windows
• For new construction, take advantage of passive solar design to decrease overall space heating and cooling energy needs over the lifetime of the building

These small steps add up to considerable savings on utility bills. Becoming aware of your own energy usage is a good starting place to begin transitioning from the mindset of endless, easily accessible, carbon based fuels. The world’s demand for these fuels continues to increase while limited supply is being depleted. The sun is a virtually infinite source of free energy that when used wisely, can supply most of our daily needs. There is a statement that can be perfectly applied to conservation and renewable energy technologies, “Think globally, act locally”.

An Energy Audit can be performed to determine where energy is being wasted on the property. The audit will provide options to decrease or eliminate inefficiencies and bring down the energy loads of the building.

  • Lower your electric bill. LEDs use only 2-17 watts of electricity, about 1/3rd to 1/30th of Incandescents or CFLs.
  • LED bulbs last up to 10 times as long as compact fluorescents so you don’t need to replace them as often.
  • LEDs do not get hot and therefor do not contribute to air conditioning costs.
  • No mercury is used in the manufacturing of LEDs.
  • LEDs are solid and hold up better than incandescent bulbs.
